Parental involvement

Your involvement in your child's education is central to our teaching policy at Wincle School.

You will get a formal report of your child's progress each year (more frequently if your child has special educational needs).
Formal parent-teacher meetings are arranged each term for you to meet your child's teachers and to discuss your child's progress and any concerns you have. You may arrange an informal meeting at any time.
Informal opportunities exist morning and evening each day to raise questions or concerns 'at the school gate'.

The school newsletter is published fortnightly to keep you abreast of what's going on: upcoming events, sports results-everything you need to know about current life at school.

If you are concerned about any aspect of life at school, or your child's progress or wellbeing you should contact the school without delay. Normally your first contact will be with the staff member primarily responsible for your child's pastoral care or your child’s class teacher (see here). If this does not resolve the matter to your satisfaction you should contact the Headteacher. This can be done directly at any time during the school day either by phone or by email.

At home, your involvement in your child's education is particularly important. You play an invaluable role in your child's learning, and nowhere more so than in teaching your child to read. Listening to your child read, and talking about books provides much needed encouragement and practice. Wincle School believes in the importance of homework in promoting achievement and it is set in increasing amounts according to age. You are expected to support your child's progress by ensuring that homework set by the school is given the respect it deserves in the family routine.
This means ensuring that appropriate quiet space is available, and sufficient time is given for your child to engage in this important part of learning, and also ensuring that homework is completed conscientiously and on time.
Parents are encouraged to take an active part in the operation of the school. There are many opportunities including becoming a parent-governor, becoming a volunteer member of the teaching or support staff, or joining the Friends of Wincle.
