My name is Carolyn Lomas and I have had the honour of being the school Chef at
Wincle since 1988. Both my children attended Wincle School, as did my husband. I take great pride in preparing the meals for the children and am never complacent. I strive every day to do the best I possibly can for them and that includes getting the best possible ingredients – ‘fresh is best’ – and ‘it’s better with nowt taken out – or added’, so to speak! |

|
| For instance, I always use fresh potatoes for mashing and roasting, butter not margarine for baking, organic Yeo Valley yogurts and proper custard made with local milk. This has been quite an undertaking both in time and money and in being allowed the ingredients is quite a fight sometimes but I don’t get deterred because your children are worth it, their health and happiness is paramount. |

The school recently had a surprise visit from Maggie Swindells, who had a school lunch. She was so impressed with the standard, she sent an e-mail to Cheshire County Council, Director of Education, stating that it was the ‘best school meal she had ever eaten’. This led to me being invited to Tatton Park to a Garden Party for people of achievement. It was pleased to attend this but my real reward is an empty plate and smiling face. |

I would like to thank the parents for supporting the school dinners even in the bad days of Jamie Oliver. I will always do my best for the children and fight for the best for them always.
