Frequently asked questions

What is the ratio of staff to pupils?

1:9 in Wincle School, 1:4 in Twincle Pre School.

How do you cater for the needs of children of so many different ages in only two classes?

Probably the best way to gain a better understanding is to come and observe a lesson in either of the two classes - all parents are welcome to do so. Our favourable pupil to teacher ratio means that we know our children very well and that we have a real understanding of their individual learning needs. Another important factor is the quality of our teaching assistants who support groups of children in their learning. Mixed age classes enable us to teach children by ability and not by age; this means we can teach them at just the right level for their stage of development.

How well do children from Wincle School do in the national tests (SATs)?
We are not able to publish our test results as we have less than 10 children in each year group and it would be too easy to identify individual children. However, data from our test results is analysed each year by ourselves, Ofsted and the local authority and we know from this data that our children achieve very well when compared to children in other schools.

Where do children from Wincle attend secondary school?
Some children go to independent schools and some to state schools in Congleton and Macclesfield. We work hard to ensure our children make a good transition to secondary school - particularly important when our children move from a school where everyone knows each other so well. Secondary schools tell us that our children are an asset, that they are capable, independent and good at making friends.

Wincle is a ‘church aided’ school- what does that mean?

Being a church-aided school makes us distinctive and special in many ways. Our aim is to demonstrate to children, their parents and all with whom we come into contact what it means to be a Christian and to live a Christian way of life. Our ties with our neighbouring St Michael’s Church are strong. Our vicar, Verena Breed is a very active parent of the school and a governor. Your child will educated as part of a very caring, supportive Christian community. Major events in the school year are celebrated by a church service to which parents are always invited.

On a practical level there are some differences in how we are funded. The school has to pay 10% of the cost of any capitally funded projects i.e. major building works such as the new toilets or classroom. Therefore your support in all fund raising activities is important.. The Christmas Fayre is our main annual fundraising event. The bi-annual ‘auction of promises’ is also a good fundraiser. Our ‘Friends of Wincle’ group are very active and are always looking for helpers!
