A Governor's Perspective

Why did I want to be a Governor at Wincle School?
I wanted to become a governor because I wanted to be involved in the school in which our children are educated. I wanted to know what the school’s issues were, to be aware of projects and plans for the future and to make decisions on staffing, building maintenance and finance to ensure that the already high standards were maintained.

My Parent Governor’s role
I consider my role to be that of a “Critical friend” – a critical friend offers support and constructive advice, but also feels confident to challenge issues, ask questions, and seek information. As one of the school’s ‘critical friends’ I work alongside other governors as a member of a team which gives its time freely to support the school’s aims.

How do I feel about being a relatively new governor?
I am delighted to have been appointed to such a responsible position, but also a little overwhelmed by the responsibility of being part of the decision making process.

What I’ve enjoyed about being a governor?
I’ve really enjoyed learning much more about the workings of the school and being part of a team of forward thinking, committed people who understand what a fantastic school Wincle is.

What has been unexpected in my role as a governor?
Having to hit the ground running! There was a lot of information to take in and I had to have an opinion on it all in order to make a worthwhile contribution to discussions. Nevertheless I am very pleased I was elected as a governor- I would recommend it to anyone who wants to contribute to the decision making process and is willing to give freely of their time.
