One of our greatest strengths at Wincle is being able to teach children according to ability rather than age.

With around 40 children at the school in two classrooms the class sizes are small and are divided into groups according to ability, these groups are supervised by one teacher and up to two teaching assistants.

Mrs Candy
My name is Julie Candy and I’m the classroom assistant in the Infants classroom (KS1: 5 - 7 years), I'm here to show you around.
Most of our KS1 children are ‘home-grown’: from Twincle our own pre-school. During their time at Twincle they spend lunchtimes and playtimes with the children from the Primary school. They get to know the older children really well, and this helps them make a
confident and happy start to their school life when they enter Reception - the first of their KS1 years.

Many children come from relatively far afield - Macclesfield, Congleton, Buxton, and Leek, as well as from over the county border in Staffordshire and Derbyshire.

We accept 6-8 children each year in September in the reception class. We make their first day memorable - all the children let off balloons (see here) and are then accompanied by their parents to St Michael’s church (next door) to celebrate the start of their school life.

I’m Jackie Cogan and I have been the Juniors (KS2: 8 - 11 years) classroom teaching assistant at Wincle School for 6 years now and I wouldn’t want to work any where else!

Mrs Cogan
I get great pleasure from seeing the progress children make in their four years in the juniors. We make a point of celebrating all their achievements-inside and outside school-so that every child knows that they are valued and cared for.
Our children also do well academically, achieving excellent results in national tests. They leave us to go to a range of state, church and independent secondary schools. We work hard to ensure transition from one school to the next is as smooth as possible, academically and socially. The feed back from these schools is that our children do very well and that they are an asset.
