The Infant Classroom includes children from Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. There are members of staff within the classroom: Mrs Worswick, Mrs Gilman, Mrs Seed and me, plus parent helpers who are always welcome. The children sometimes work together as a class or in various ability groups in order to meet each individual child’s needs. The Reception children access the Foundation Stage Curriculum through differentiated teaching and well planned play activities. The classroom is well resourced with four computers using a range of software packages, and an interactive whiteboard all of which enhance the curriculum e.g. to demonstrate ICT skills.

Role play
The children read the story and then retold it. They used the ideas in role play activities to develop their speaking and listening skills.

We follow a topic-based curriculum enabling the children to cover a wide range of subjects through relevant and interesting activities.

For example, we have looked at Homes. One of the stories we looked at was the story of the Three Little Pigs and we developed a range of activities within this theme.

Challah bread
Then we looked at God’s house, the Church and looked at the areas within the church and sketched them creating a collage for the wall.

Building houses
The children used construction equipment to build the houses in our well resourced outdoor area.

Challah bread
We looked at our own homes and compared them to Jewish homes.  The children made Challah bread.

Building houses
For science the children tested materials like straw, sticks and bricks, and tested whether they were waterproof.

The beautiful countryside surrounding the school is also used to enhance the curriculum.

Building houses
We completed the term with an assembly where all the children participated and parents were invited to watch.
Tesselated shapes Schoolground shapes Schoolground shapes
The children looked at shapes around the school and around their homes and used mathematical language to describe them.
