Twincle Pre-School Education

The staff of Twincle believe that PLAY is the key to a child’s learning and that the child’s primary educators are the parents/carers. We provide a supplementary education through play, the Curriculum for 3 years + planned around the six Early Learning Goals of the Foundation Stage required by Ofsted. These goals, which are:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication, Language and Literacy
  • Mathematical Development
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World
  • Physical development and Creative development

...are expected to be reached by the end of the Reception Year following a series of Stepping Stones as outlined by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA). The Curriculum includes a diverse range of indoor and outdoor activities most of which cover all six of the early learning goals. The children are encouraged to explore using the five senses so they do get wet and/or messy although their independence develops through learning to put on, or ask for help to put on, the appropriate protective clothing for the ‘messy’ activity.

Those children under 3 are included in the planning of the curriculum working alongside Surestart’s ‘Birth to Three Matters’ which is, “framework to support children in their earliest years”. The activities are planned to encourage development of the under 3’s in four areas.

  • A strong child (Birth to three matters)
  • A skilfull communicator (Birth to three matters)
  • A competent learner
  • A healthy child (Birth to three matters)

The children are observed and assessed continually so that we are able to adapt and extend activities to cater for the individual needs of each child. The small numbers in our setting mean that we are able to form a strong relationship with each child, allowing us to, plan around his/her interests, know when s/he is upset or feeling ‘off-colour’, enjoy a positive partnership with his/her parent(s)/carer(s) and help him/her gain independence in preparation for starting school.
